Seafood Labelling laws

In news that may or may not be new to you all, the Federal government has decried that more bureacracy is required to live with in all South East Queensland hospitality venues that sell any cooked or fresh Seafood dishes.

From 1 July 2026, all Australian hospitality businesses will need to comply with a new country of origin information standard for seafood.

Any seafood selling Brisbane, Gold or Sunshine Coast business will need to label dishes containing seafood:

  • A for Australian
  • I for imported
  • M for mixed origin.

This new standard applies for cooked or fresh seafood also.

We recommend you start to make changes on your menu now so that it isnt as much of an issue in less than a years time.
